I forget if I've listened to this. I just grabbed it off the strength of Altars of Madness, this Flordia Death Metal band's debut.
This late '80s California band was one of the first to mix hardcore punk with ska. This album, along with the self-titled Specials album, inspired me to play bass guitar.
Solid pop-punk from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The vocalist is very gruff yet melodic. The songs kind of blend together for me but there are a few nice hooks on here and a good sense of energy.
Mid 2000s Seattle, Washington inspired the wettest indie folk I've ever heard. Dense with vocal harmonies. A little too tender for me to listen to all the time.
90s English Braindance with layered percussion and ethereal synth soundscapes. Production gives Steve Reich doing techno. I don't even know how many times I've listened to this one.
90's D.C. darlings' second album. Better production than the first helps creative arrangements shine through. Rhythm section is bouncy and tight, the guitar angular.
I remember listening to this a lot back in 2017-18 during my commute to work. It's fun.
Brody Dalle has the coolest voice. I still come back to this one sometimes. The songwriting and musicianship is kind of unremarkable though.
Math rock with pretty cool drums and some spacey pedal usage on the guitars.
Forgettable project from the guy behind Black Elvis/Lost in Space, Dr. Octagonecologyst, and First Come, First Served. Horrorcore vibes.
'70s progressive synthesizer-based electronic music. Apparently this guy has organized some of the largest concerts by attendance of all time...
Their fourth live album. I think I listened to this once and decided it wasn't that good.
A classic '80s NYHC album, from before it got all beatdown-y. More uplifting than your average hardcore album. According to Wikipedia they are named after a slang for quaaludes.
Fun '70s Irish pop-punk. It's kind of like when Stiff Little Fingers did that doo-wop thing on Barbed Wire Love, but for a whole CD. Pretty corny at times. I think it's funny when he sings about mars bars.
'90s atmospheric DnB tunes. Although the '90s are my favorite era for DnB, this isn't even my favorite style of '90s DnB. I like the neurofunk stuff more.
Hilariously enough I really do not remember what this one sounds like. Upon listening: it's hardcore, alright.
I never liked NOFX. I thought having a CD of theirs and listening to it a few times might change that. It didn't.
Now HERE'S a shitty pop-punk album that I like. Ben Weasel seems like a jerk but I like his music lol
Swedish post-hardcore, and you can tell. I find this album rather unfocused but the ending riff of the first track is a banger and the subtitle is hilarious.
The first time I heard this I found its less snotty tone and focus on pop hooks offputting. Now I think it's even better than Boogadaboogadaboogada, which was my frame of reference when I first heard it.
Collection of some all time classic Dead Kennedys songs and then a handful of tunes I don't care about.
Even though it's a collection of several different EPs plus unreleased tracks, this is my most-listened Nirvana release. I find it surprisingly coherent for what it is. The stripped-down arrangements and raw production hold it together.
I'm not sure how I ended up with this. I think maybe my older sister's boyfriend gave it to me.
All I can remember about this album is it doesn't feel as approachable as Hold Yr Horse Is. Maybe I just have less patience for dense math rock these days.
This is some classic fucking hardcore/powerviolence/thrashcore from 1984 Massachusetts. If you like hardcore and you don't know about this band, you're missing out.
Overrated but kinda scratches the same itch as Sublime for when I just want to groove to jamaican-inspired rhythms for like an hour and a half.
I wanted to like this more than I do for it being a noisy as fuck band with two bass players. Idk it all just feels really formless.
I grabbed this based off the fact it was tagged as "psychedelic black metal." Pretty sus name but they allegedly aren't nazis. But the main guy behind this band is a scammer. Bleh. Music is boring anyway. I'd get rid of this one without remorse.
wow two sus band names in a row lol... 88 fingers louie got their name from flintstones tho apparently?? I just got this because I like Kid Dynamite and I wanted to see if the other band could impress me but I never listen to this CD
I listened to this in my car with the A/C off in the Virginia Summer and I think it was a pretty close approximation of how some noise venues can get pretty sweaty. I don't have a lot to say about Merzbow really.
I grabbed this one based off its connection to a DIY record label I was pretty into called Plan-it-X. I listened to it a few times but it never really clicked for me.
I never liked this album because it's overwrought for something calling itself hardcore. Listening back like 6 years later - it's ok.
I don't like it, no sir. Too jammy and self-indulgent. Why are there so many weird noises, is this rock or not?
Some death metal and some electronic remixes of death metal. Weird CD and not that good.
The Dead Kennedys CD I never listen to.
I find this album really hateable. It gives serious "nice guy" energy. Like he's trying to be introspective an emotional but he seems like a really annoying and bitter dude. And yet I kind of enjoy singing along to it.
Warp records comp CD. I remember enjoying some of the tracks on here but it's a little inconsistent to listen to front-to-back.
Tons of Black Flag, with a different vocalist every few tracks. This is all pre-Henry Rollins and it's mostly pretty good.
Atmospheric sludge metal, but, like, kind of boring. I never could get into Neurosis, preferring the likes of ISIS and Blindead.
I think I mostly like Buzzbomb and Forest Fire off this album. A little inconsistent compared to Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. At least it includes "Nazi Punks Fuck Off."
holy shit its the obelisk!! this feels kind of plodding and lacking in urgency compared to earlier Fugazi. Feels really emotional hardcore.
This might actually be my favorite hardcore albums of all time, 14 minutes of bangers
One of the few CDs on this page that I didn't buy at Richmond, VA's Vinyl Conflict record shop. I grabbed this in DC. It's German animal rights grindcore. Can't recommend.
Ever since I heard someone say Botch ripped their sound from ETID I've wanted to get into the latter but I never have been able to, despite listening to a couple of their albums.
This CD is hilarious because it's a mini CD that you need a special player to listen to. As such, I have had the opportunity to listen to this actual CD exactly once.
Pretty cool funk influenced post-hardcore. Reminescent of NoMeansNo thanks to the prominent basslines.
Grindcore I can't remember a goddamn thing about.
Converge so it's probably pretty good but I have a hard time remembering how this one goes besides having a lot of quiet bits that are hard to hear when I'm driving
fun dumb crust nothing else going on
whatever
I got this as a bonus for ordering a You Slut! CD. I don't even know what genre it is honestly.
Folk-punk but not folk-punk I was ever that into. I mostly got this because Talking Transgender Dysphoria Blues hit for me in 2014.
The first CD I ever bought. I used to use the same forum as the bassist. Said bassist is now employed by EA I think. Good for him I guess. I have a shirt with a simplified version of this artwork on it that I still wear all the time, thirteen years later.
Radiohead CD I don't think I've ever actually listened to. Maybe one day! The one time I listened to Kid A was pretty freakin good.
Sometimes you just buy a CD because the band has a really good name and then it's pretty forgettable crust...
best thing I can say about this band is dude sounds like a woman. Not my kind of post-hardcore
I think I need to give this one another shot because listening to it right now it doesn't sound half bad. It's just no Loveless. It's more like Dinosaur Jr.
I don't remember where or why I got this CD. I also don't remember what kind of music is really on it beyond weirdo pop.
Grabbed this one 'cause the album art looked cool. It turned out to be kind of boring death metal. Yawn.
Noisy whimsical slacker rock. Pavement is great but unfortunately I think I left this CD in Colorado so I haven't heard it as much as I could have.
uhhhhh im ngl i only bought this CD cuz I saw this dude open for AJJ and he was cute :x I think it's social commentary
I like AJJ a lot back in the day. Now I can't really stand to listen to them because of how fucking depressing they are.
lol
Rakim is the least dated sounding '80s MC I've found so far. I love the apocolyptic production on this album.
Late '70s Irish pop-punk with a political aim. I quite like the vocals. The 8 minute Bob Marley cover is surprisingly good. The anti-racism track full of racial slurs is a tough sell.
Pat the Bunny's other projects include Johnny Hobo & the Freight Trains, Wingnut Dishwasher's Union, and Ramshackle Glory. DIY packaging as it was self-released.
I really can't remember what it was I didn't like about this, only that I didn't like it! I should try listening to it outside of my car.
'80s Cali surf punk. Even includes a rendition of Misirlou. Bloodstains is a classic.
This album is my own personal "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" and I will not explain further.
Bought this based on the packaging. I think it's sludge metal. It's overly long and didn't hold my attention very well.
I remember some people saying they liked this band. I think they probably put out some good music earlier in their career, but not by this point.
The D Plan before they knew what they were doing. Listen to "Soon to Be Ex-Quaker" if you must and then skip this one.
I bought this because a guy I dated really liked it. Personally I don't like the Swedish production style.
Fugazi GONE ATMOSPHERIC... Joe Lally and Brendan Canty are such a potent rhythm section gd
Comedy pop-punk. Amusing for like half a dozen listens and then you can put it away.
Buying this helped me figure out I don't like Beastie Boys! I just don't, they're annoying!
Tourette's is one of the best Nirvana songs the rest of the album is either overplayed or kind of forgettable. Shoutout to Steve Albini tho
If you're ever thinking of listening to The Queers, consider listening to Limp Wrist instead. Of all the Black Flag songs to cover in 2010, White Minority is a weird fucking pick. I need to get rid of some of these
I love The Jesus Lizard but Yow's vocals on this album are distractingly hoarse D:
Canadian powerviolence that I just could not remember no matter how many times I listened to it.
Steve Albini's last band. I love Big Black, Rapeman is fucking great, but Shellac never really did it for me.
Grabbed this because the premise of female-fronted synth-led punk rock was a strong one. Unfortunately it doesn't really deliver like I hoped it would. The Sick Lipstick is more my vibe.
Not much I have to say about this one. I bought it in case I was ever in the mood for really old blues. I'm usually not.
It's, like, The Clash... I'm just not a big fan ok
I kinda like some Blink-182 so I thought this might be a fun listen on occasion, but the songs are weak.
"ok this gotta be some kind of drone" - me shortly before purchasing this CD, knowing just about as much as I do several years later
This album was really important to me in high school but I'm not really sure it holds up 15 years later
funny early grindcore. they really are unhindered by talent XD
weak Screeching Weasel album
really mediocre rock
It's a compilation of AJJ tunes. Some of them can be kind of fun.
Bought this because I really liked "Horse Bites Dog Cries." It turned out to be a live album, and I'm generally not fond of those, so it quickly fell out of rotation.
Against All Authority is a band I see praised a lot but I've never been able to get into them. This CD is no exception. The Criminals are totally forgettable.
I think this band is really close to something I could like. I think someone showed me a cool 311 song once. But somehow I never really got into it.
powerviolence I've definitely heard but don't really remember.
finnish hardcore. that's it.
musically this album is great death metal that balances the oldschool approach of early death with the encroaching technicality of later death. lyrically it sounds like it was written in Florida.
memories of cruising to community college classes and singing along to this. it's fun, i like it.
more polished and consistent than their first album. the highs are less high but the lows are less low. i like to put it on for road trips sometimes.
beastie boys more like blehsty boys am i right...
local band. decent enough tunes but i guess it never went anywhere past this.
I picked this up from a thrift store thinking some day I would sample it for something. So far, I have not.
some kind of Bob Marley compilation. iirc the production was kinda cheeks.
Remember when Gwen Stefani was in a ska band? And they were kind of good sometimes?
This CD is great because the packaging doesn't have any actual language anywhere on it. Some of the most alien sounding shit I've ever heard.
Swedish d-beat. Nothing more to say.
I can't stand this band's vocalist.
Man in the Box is a classic. I don't remember any other song from this album.
I have a huge soft spot for Sublime tbh. This album kicks, I love how rough the production is.
Some trash classical CD I grabbed at a thrift store. Never listened to ;3
I couldn't find any info on this one online. How mysterious...
Norwegian group's downtempo debut. Gotta listen to this more.
Inherited from an ex. It's old fashioned progressive rock.
I don't know why this release is titled in Japanese, becuase the group is from the UK...
"we have loveless at home" type beat
hope you like 6/8
Pretty fun alt-rock with warbly vocals.
yeah another Against Me! album... haha this is is cool, I like how short it is. feels more focused than other Against Me! albums.
I only really like a few songs off this, sorry Atom.
whole album is worth it just for Reptilia vocals
Swedish crust
Swedish Autopsy worship, not awful
Niceguy-core with catchy compositions.
it swings
The artist gave me this CD for free because I reached out to her on Facebook and asked her a couple questions.
more niceguycore with good compositions
what it says on the tin, pretty much.
charles mingus
batch of fun songs
baritone lead! don't hear that often
Yes is so fweaking cool my dude
boooooring black metal it's boring!
I saw her live she was so good that I bought this CD I didn't think it was so great at first but now I realize it's a total fugging banger
Probably my most listened to CD out of all of these. I fuckin love this album
it's like if Meshuggah were hypnotic instead of pummeling or something
