my cd collection

presented in the order in which I grabbed them from the container

mouse over the album art for info

  1. Morbid Angel - Domination
  2. I forget if I've listened to this. I just grabbed it off the strength of Altars of Madness, this Flordia Death Metal band's debut.

  3. Operation Ivy - s/t
  4. This late '80s California band was one of the first to mix hardcore punk with ska. This album, along with the self-titled Specials album, inspired me to play bass guitar.

  5. Kid Dynamite - Shorter, Faster, Louder
  6. Solid pop-punk from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The vocalist is very gruff yet melodic. The songs kind of blend together for me but there are a few nice hooks on here and a good sense of energy.

  7. Fleet Foxes - s/t
  8. Mid 2000s Seattle, Washington inspired the wettest indie folk I've ever heard. Dense with vocal harmonies. A little too tender for me to listen to all the time.

  9. Autechre - Incunabula
  10. 90s English Braindance with layered percussion and ethereal synth soundscapes. Production gives Steve Reich doing techno. I don't even know how many times I've listened to this one.

  11. The Dismemberment Plan - Is Terrified
  12. 90's D.C. darlings' second album. Better production than the first helps creative arrangements shine through. Rhythm section is bouncy and tight, the guitar angular.

  13. Kid Dynamite - s/t
  14. I remember listening to this a lot back in 2017-18 during my commute to work. It's fun.

  15. The Distillers - Sing Sing Death House
  16. Brody Dalle has the coolest voice. I still come back to this one sometimes. The songwriting and musicianship is kind of unremarkable though.

  17. Don Caballero - What Burns Never Returns
  18. Math rock with pretty cool drums and some spacey pedal usage on the guitars.

  19. Kool Keith - Kool Keith Presents Thee Undatakerz
  20. Forgettable project from the guy behind Black Elvis/Lost in Space, Dr. Octagonecologyst, and First Come, First Served. Horrorcore vibes.

  21. Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
  22. '70s progressive synthesizer-based electronic music. Apparently this guy has organized some of the largest concerts by attendance of all time...

  23. Ramones - We're Outta Here
  24. Their fourth live album. I think I listened to this once and decided it wasn't that good.

  25. Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today
  26. A classic '80s NYHC album, from before it got all beatdown-y. More uplifting than your average hardcore album. According to Wikipedia they are named after a slang for quaaludes.

  27. The Undertones - s/t
  28. Fun '70s Irish pop-punk. It's kind of like when Stiff Little Fingers did that doo-wop thing on Barbed Wire Love, but for a whole CD. Pretty corny at times. I think it's funny when he sings about mars bars.

  29. Various - LTJ Bukem Presents Logical Progression
  30. '90s atmospheric DnB tunes. Although the '90s are my favorite era for DnB, this isn't even my favorite style of '90s DnB. I like the neurofunk stuff more.

  31. Poison Idea - Record Collecters are Pretentious Assholes LP
  32. Hilariously enough I really do not remember what this one sounds like. Upon listening: it's hardcore, alright.

  33. NOFX - I Heard They Suck Live
  34. I never liked NOFX. I thought having a CD of theirs and listening to it a few times might change that. It didn't.

  35. Screeching Weasel - Anthem For a New Tomorrow
  36. Now HERE'S a shitty pop-punk album that I like. Ben Weasel seems like a jerk but I like his music lol

  37. Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombination in 12 Bursts
  38. Swedish post-hardcore, and you can tell. I find this album rather unfocused but the ending riff of the first track is a banger and the subtitle is hilarious.

  39. Screeching Weasel - My Brain Hurts
  40. The first time I heard this I found its less snotty tone and focus on pop hooks offputting. Now I think it's even better than Boogadaboogadaboogada, which was my frame of reference when I first heard it.

  41. Dead Kennedys - Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death
  42. Collection of some all time classic Dead Kennedys songs and then a handful of tunes I don't care about.

  43. Nirvana - Incesticide
  44. Even though it's a collection of several different EPs plus unreleased tracks, this is my most-listened Nirvana release. I find it surprisingly coherent for what it is. The stripped-down arrangements and raw production hold it together.

  45. God of Nothing - Cruel By Nature
  46. I'm not sure how I ended up with this. I think maybe my older sister's boyfriend gave it to me.

  47. Hella - The Devil Isn't Red
  48. All I can remember about this album is it doesn't feel as approachable as Hold Yr Horse Is. Maybe I just have less patience for dense math rock these days.

  49. Siege - Drop Dead
  50. This is some classic fucking hardcore/powerviolence/thrashcore from 1984 Massachusetts. If you like hardcore and you don't know about this band, you're missing out.

  51. The Clash - London Calling
  52. Overrated but kinda scratches the same itch as Sublime for when I just want to groove to jamaican-inspired rhythms for like an hour and a half.

  53. Man Is the Bastard - Sum of the Men "The Brutality Continues..."
  54. I wanted to like this more than I do for it being a noisy as fuck band with two bass players. Idk it all just feels really formless.

  55. Nachtmystium - Instinct Decay
  56. I grabbed this based off the fact it was tagged as "psychedelic black metal." Pretty sus name but they allegedly aren't nazis. But the main guy behind this band is a scammer. Bleh. Music is boring anyway. I'd get rid of this one without remorse.

  57. 88 Fingers Louie / Kid Dynamite
  58. wow two sus band names in a row lol... 88 fingers louie got their name from flintstones tho apparently?? I just got this because I like Kid Dynamite and I wanted to see if the other band could impress me but I never listen to this CD

  59. Merzbow - Oersted
  60. I listened to this in my car with the A/C off in the Virginia Summer and I think it was a pretty close approximation of how some noise venues can get pretty sweaty. I don't have a lot to say about Merzbow really.

  61. The Max Levine Ensemble
  62. I grabbed this one based off its connection to a DIY record label I was pretty into called Plan-it-X. I listened to it a few times but it never really clicked for me.

  63. Modern Life Is War - My Love My Way
  64. I never liked this album because it's overwrought for something calling itself hardcore. Listening back like 6 years later - it's ok.

  65. The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
  66. I don't like it, no sir. Too jammy and self-indulgent. Why are there so many weird noises, is this rock or not?

  67. Malevolent Creation - Joe Black
  68. Some death metal and some electronic remixes of death metal. Weird CD and not that good.

  69. Dead Kennedys - Bedtime For Democracy
  70. The Dead Kennedys CD I never listen to.

  71. Saves the Day - Through Being Cool
  72. I find this album really hateable. It gives serious "nice guy" energy. Like he's trying to be introspective an emotional but he seems like a really annoying and bitter dude. And yet I kind of enjoy singing along to it.

  73. Various - We Are Reasonable People
  74. Warp records comp CD. I remember enjoying some of the tracks on here but it's a little inconsistent to listen to front-to-back.

  75. Black Flag - The First Four Years
  76. Tons of Black Flag, with a different vocalist every few tracks. This is all pre-Henry Rollins and it's mostly pretty good.

  77. Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood
  78. Atmospheric sludge metal, but, like, kind of boring. I never could get into Neurosis, preferring the likes of ISIS and Blindead.

  79. Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters / In God We Trust, Inc.
  80. I think I mostly like Buzzbomb and Forest Fire off this album. A little inconsistent compared to Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. At least it includes "Nazi Punks Fuck Off."

  81. Fugazi - In On the Kill Taker
  82. holy shit its the obelisk!! this feels kind of plodding and lacking in urgency compared to earlier Fugazi. Feels really emotional hardcore.

  83. Circle Jerks - Group Sex
  84. This might actually be my favorite hardcore albums of all time, 14 minutes of bangers

  85. Attack of the Mad Axeman - Grind the Enimal
  86. One of the few CDs on this page that I didn't buy at Richmond, VA's Vinyl Conflict record shop. I grabbed this in DC. It's German animal rights grindcore. Can't recommend.

  87. Every Time I Die - Gutter Phenomenon
  88. Ever since I heard someone say Botch ripped their sound from ETID I've wanted to get into the latter but I never have been able to, despite listening to a couple of their albums.

  89. The Locust - Follow the Flock, Step In Shit
  90. This CD is hilarious because it's a mini CD that you need a special player to listen to. As such, I have had the opportunity to listen to this actual CD exactly once.

  91. The Victims Family - White Bread Blues / Things I Hate To Admit
  92. Pretty cool funk influenced post-hardcore. Reminescent of NoMeansNo thanks to the prominent basslines.

  93. Leng Tch'e - The Process of Elimination
  94. Grindcore I can't remember a goddamn thing about.

  95. Converge - You Fail Me
  96. Converge so it's probably pretty good but I have a hard time remembering how this one goes besides having a lot of quiet bits that are hard to hear when I'm driving

  97. Trap Them - Seizures in Barren Praise
  98. fun dumb crust nothing else going on

  99. Black Flag - In My Head
  100. whatever

  101. Die! Chihuahua Die! - Bitch Songs
  102. I got this as a bonus for ordering a You Slut! CD. I don't even know what genre it is honestly.

  103. Against Me - Reinventing Axl Rose
  104. Folk-punk but not folk-punk I was ever that into. I mostly got this because Talking Transgender Dysphoria Blues hit for me in 2014.

  105. Cormorant - Metazoa
  106. The first CD I ever bought. I used to use the same forum as the bassist. Said bassist is now employed by EA I think. Good for him I guess. I have a shirt with a simplified version of this artwork on it that I still wear all the time, thirteen years later.

  107. Radiohead - Amnesiac
  108. Radiohead CD I don't think I've ever actually listened to. Maybe one day! The one time I listened to Kid A was pretty freakin good.

  109. Severed Head of State - Power Hazard e.p.
  110. Sometimes you just buy a CD because the band has a really good name and then it's pretty forgettable crust...

  111. Circa Survive - On Letting Go
  112. best thing I can say about this band is dude sounds like a woman. Not my kind of post-hardcore

  113. My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything
  114. I think I need to give this one another shot because listening to it right now it doesn't sound half bad. It's just no Loveless. It's more like Dinosaur Jr.

  115. Bunky - Born To Be a Motorcycle
  116. I don't remember where or why I got this CD. I also don't remember what kind of music is really on it beyond weirdo pop.

  117. Mammoth Grinder - Cosmic Crypt
  118. Grabbed this one 'cause the album art looked cool. It turned out to be kind of boring death metal. Yawn.

  119. Pavement - Wowee Zowee
  120. Noisy whimsical slacker rock. Pavement is great but unfortunately I think I left this CD in Colorado so I haven't heard it as much as I could have.

  121. Spoonboy - The Papas
  122. uhhhhh im ngl i only bought this CD cuz I saw this dude open for AJJ and he was cute :x I think it's social commentary

  123. AJJ - Knife Man
  124. I like AJJ a lot back in the day. Now I can't really stand to listen to them because of how fucking depressing they are.

  125. Elvis Presley - The Essential
  126. lol

  127. Eric B & Rakim - Paid In Full
  128. Rakim is the least dated sounding '80s MC I've found so far. I love the apocolyptic production on this album.

  129. Stiff Little Fingers - Inflammable Material
  130. Late '70s Irish pop-punk with a political aim. I quite like the vocals. The 8 minute Bob Marley cover is surprisingly good. The anti-racism track full of racial slurs is a tough sell.

  131. Pat "the bunny" Schneeweis - The Mark Inside
  132. Pat the Bunny's other projects include Johnny Hobo & the Freight Trains, Wingnut Dishwasher's Union, and Ramshackle Glory. DIY packaging as it was self-released.

  133. The Prodigy - Music For the Jilted Generation
  134. I really can't remember what it was I didn't like about this, only that I didn't like it! I should try listening to it outside of my car.

  135. Agent Orange - Living in Darkness
  136. '80s Cali surf punk. Even includes a rendition of Misirlou. Bloodstains is a classic.

  137. AJJ - People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People In the World
  138. This album is my own personal "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" and I will not explain further.

  139. Solar Anus - Skull Alcoholic: The Complete Solar Anus
  140. Bought this based on the packaging. I think it's sludge metal. It's overly long and didn't hold my attention very well.

  141. The Bouncing Souls - The Gold Record
  142. I remember some people saying they liked this band. I think they probably put out some good music earlier in their career, but not by this point.

  143. The Dismemberment Plan - "!"
  144. The D Plan before they knew what they were doing. Listen to "Soon to Be Ex-Quaker" if you must and then skip this one.

  145. Millencolin - Home From Home
  146. I bought this because a guy I dated really liked it. Personally I don't like the Swedish production style.

  147. Fugazi - The Argument
  148. Fugazi GONE ATMOSPHERIC... Joe Lally and Brendan Canty are such a potent rhythm section gd

  149. The Vandals - Hitler Bad, Vandals Good.
  150. Comedy pop-punk. Amusing for like half a dozen listens and then you can put it away.

  151. Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty
  152. Buying this helped me figure out I don't like Beastie Boys! I just don't, they're annoying!

  153. Nirvana - In Utero
  154. Tourette's is one of the best Nirvana songs the rest of the album is either overplayed or kind of forgettable. Shoutout to Steve Albini tho

  155. The Queers - Back to the Basement
  156. If you're ever thinking of listening to The Queers, consider listening to Limp Wrist instead. Of all the Black Flag songs to cover in 2010, White Minority is a weird fucking pick. I need to get rid of some of these

  157. The Jesus Lizard - Show
  158. I love The Jesus Lizard but Yow's vocals on this album are distractingly hoarse D:

  159. Osk - Wretched Existence // Bleak Future 2007 - 2010
  160. Canadian powerviolence that I just could not remember no matter how many times I listened to it.

  161. Shellac - At Action Park
  162. Steve Albini's last band. I love Big Black, Rapeman is fucking great, but Shellac never really did it for me.

  163. Epoxies - s/t
  164. Grabbed this because the premise of female-fronted synth-led punk rock was a strong one. Unfortunately it doesn't really deliver like I hoped it would. The Sick Lipstick is more my vibe.

  165. John Lee Hooker - House of the Blues
  166. Not much I have to say about this one. I bought it in case I was ever in the mood for really old blues. I'm usually not.

  167. The Clash - Combat Rock
  168. It's, like, The Clash... I'm just not a big fan ok

  169. Blink-182 - Chesire Cat
  170. I kinda like some Blink-182 so I thought this might be a fun listen on occasion, but the songs are weak.

  171. Melvins / Lustmord - Pigs of the Roman Empire
  172. "ok this gotta be some kind of drone" - me shortly before purchasing this CD, knowing just about as much as I do several years later

  173. Andrew W.K. - I Get Wet
  174. This album was really important to me in high school but I'm not really sure it holds up 15 years later

  175. Sore Throat - Disgrace to the Corpse of Sid & Unhindered By Talent
  176. funny early grindcore. they really are unhindered by talent XD

  177. Screeching Weasel - Bark Like a Dog
  178. weak Screeching Weasel album

  179. Rocket From the Crypt - Scream, Dracula, Scream!
  180. really mediocre rock

  181. AJJ - Rompilation
  182. It's a compilation of AJJ tunes. Some of them can be kind of fun.

  183. D.I. - Ancient Artifacts
  184. Bought this because I really liked "Horse Bites Dog Cries." It turned out to be a live album, and I'm generally not fond of those, so it quickly fell out of rotation.

  185. Against All Authority / The Criminals - Exchange
  186. Against All Authority is a band I see praised a lot but I've never been able to get into them. This CD is no exception. The Criminals are totally forgettable.

  187. 311 - Soundsystem
  188. I think this band is really close to something I could like. I think someone showed me a cool 311 song once. But somehow I never really got into it.

  189. The Endless Blockade - Turn Illness Into A Weapon
  190. powerviolence I've definitely heard but don't really remember.

  191. Riistetyt - Kuolonhymnejä
  192. finnish hardcore. that's it.

  193. Death - Spiritual Healing
  194. musically this album is great death metal that balances the oldschool approach of early death with the encroaching technicality of later death. lyrically it sounds like it was written in Florida.

  195. Green Day - Dookie
  196. memories of cruising to community college classes and singing along to this. it's fun, i like it.

  197. Sublime - s/t
  198. more polished and consistent than their first album. the highs are less high but the lows are less low. i like to put it on for road trips sometimes.

  199. Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
  200. beastie boys more like blehsty boys am i right...

  201. The Scribbles - Money Minded Matters
  202. local band. decent enough tunes but i guess it never went anywhere past this.

  203. The Nature Company - Environmental Sounds: Songs of the Whales & Dolphins
  204. I picked this up from a thrift store thinking some day I would sample it for something. So far, I have not.

  205. Bob Marley - Rainbow Country
  206. some kind of Bob Marley compilation. iirc the production was kinda cheeks.

  207. No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
  208. Remember when Gwen Stefani was in a ska band? And they were kind of good sometimes?

  209. qebrµs - ᐔ ᐌ ᐂ ᐍ ᐚ
  210. This CD is great because the packaging doesn't have any actual language anywhere on it. Some of the most alien sounding shit I've ever heard.

  211. Human Waste - Ett 6-Pack Folköl & Antipolis
  212. Swedish d-beat. Nothing more to say.

  213. Coalesce - Give Them Rope
  214. I can't stand this band's vocalist.

  215. Alice In Chains - Facelift
  216. Man in the Box is a classic. I don't remember any other song from this album.

  217. Sublime - 40 Oz. To Freedom
  218. I have a huge soft spot for Sublime tbh. This album kicks, I love how rough the production is.

  219. Various - Dream Melodies Vol. 1: Baroque
  220. Some trash classical CD I grabbed at a thrift store. Never listened to ;3

  221. Various - Technicians of Electronics Disc Two
  222. I couldn't find any info on this one online. How mysterious...

  223. Royksopp - Melody A.M.
  224. Norwegian group's downtempo debut. Gotta listen to this more.

  225. Camel - Moonmadness
  226. Inherited from an ex. It's old fashioned progressive rock.

  227. Doom - 教祖ラッシュ [Rush Hour of the Gods]
  228. I don't know why this release is titled in Japanese, becuase the group is from the UK...

  229. Curve - Doppelganger
  230. "we have loveless at home" type beat

  231. Braid - Frame & Canvas
  232. hope you like 6/8

  233. The Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic
  234. Pretty fun alt-rock with warbly vocals.

  235. Against Me! - As The Eternal Cowboy
  236. yeah another Against Me! album... haha this is is cool, I like how short it is. feels more focused than other Against Me! albums.

  237. Atom & His Package - Redefining Music
  238. I only really like a few songs off this, sorry Atom.

  239. The Strokes - Room on Fire
  240. whole album is worth it just for Reptilia vocals

  241. Skitsystem - allt e skit
  242. Swedish crust

  243. Murder Squad - Unsane, Insane, and Mentally Deranged
  244. Swedish Autopsy worship, not awful

  245. The Ergs! - Dorkrockcorkrod
  246. Niceguy-core with catchy compositions.

  247. Oscar Peterson - Night Train
  248. it swings

  249. Madison Turner - A Comprehensive Guide to Burning Out
  250. The artist gave me this CD for free because I reached out to her on Facebook and asked her a couple questions.

  251. Descendents - Everything Sucks
  252. more niceguycore with good compositions

  253. Yeska - Skafrocubanjazz
  254. what it says on the tin, pretty much.

  255. Charles Mingus - Priceless Jazz Collection
  256. charles mingus

  257. Misfits - Collection
  258. batch of fun songs

  259. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Let's Face It
  260. baritone lead! don't hear that often

  261. Yes - Close to the Edge
  262. Yes is so fweaking cool my dude

  263. Gorgoroth - Incipit Satan
  264. boooooring black metal it's boring!

  265. Dickgirl - LoveBombingUrself!
  266. I saw her live she was so good that I bought this CD I didn't think it was so great at first but now I realize it's a total fugging banger

  267. Meshuggah - Nothing
  268. Probably my most listened to CD out of all of these. I fuckin love this album

  269. TOOL - Lateralus
  270. it's like if Meshuggah were hypnotic instead of pummeling or something
